Check your coin
- The obverse has Benjamin Franklin and a date from 1948–1963.
- The reverse has the Liberty Bell and a small eagle. This example shows the D mintmark above the bell.
- Original standard mass is 12.5 g at 90% silver. Worn coins may have less remaining mass.
Keep collector condition intact: do not clean a coin to identify it. Use measured weight for a worn collection.
Eligible Franklin half dollar issues
Franklin’s portrait and the Liberty Bell identify the 1948–1963 series. Look above the bell for the mintmark. The silver standard matches a 1964 Kennedy half: 11.25 g each, or 225 g in twenty original-weight halves.
