Fine gold from your assumed fineness

Dental gold value depends on the metal weight and its gold content. A whole crown can include porcelain, cement and tooth material; exclude those from the weight.

How much is a gold crown worth?

Weigh the separated metal, or use a documented net alloy weight. Colour and crown count do not establish gold content.

Gold percentage × 10 = fineness. For example, an assumed 60% gold content is 600; it is an illustration, not a standard crown composition.

YOUR METAL WEIGHT

—

Weight must be a number from 0 to 1000000000.

This is the gold contribution only. An assay may also report silver, platinum or palladium.

Dental alloys do not have one gold purity

The ADA’s archived 2003 classification groups dental alloys by noble-metal content. High noble means at least 60% gold plus platinum-group metals, including at least 40% gold. Noble means at least 25% gold plus platinum-group metals; predominantly base means less than 25%. The ADA lists titanium and titanium alloys separately.

These are classes, not a gold assay: a noble designation does not mean 25% gold, and a high-noble designation does not mean 60% gold. Dental restorations can also combine a metal substructure with porcelain. Use the gold percentage from the alloy record or refiner’s assay.

Classification and restoration materials: American Dental Association.

Refiner assay vs an estimate

An assumed fineness produces a scenario. Recalculate with a refiner’s measured net metal weight and assay to compare a settlement. Ask whether the quote pays for gold alone or also for assayed palladium, platinum and silver, and whether sampling, refining or other fees are deducted.

Keep each assayed metal contribution separate when building a mixed lot: use the same net alloy mass with that metal’s own confirmed fineness. Never count the full crown weight as pure gold. Enter the buyer’s offer and fees above to see the gold-only comparison.
