Read 950 Pt and 900 Pt/Ir correctly

Platinum rings and settings can contain different alloys. A 950 Pt mark means 95% platinum. A confirmed 900 platinum / 100 iridium alloy contains 90% platinum: enter 900 to value its platinum content.

Separate the setting from the stone

Use the net platinum-alloy weight of the ring or setting. The remaining iridium or other alloying metal is not valued at the platinum price. If the alloy is uncertain, use the fineness reported by an assay.
