Face value counts coins, not silver dollars

For 90% silver dimes, quarters and half dollars, $1 face means ten dimes, four quarters or two halves. Each group has 22.5 g of fine silver at original standard weight. Morgan and Peace dollars have their own heavier standard.

Rolls and worn mixed lots

A dime roll holds 50 coins; a quarter roll holds 40; a half-dollar roll holds 20. Select each issue, enter the count or rolls, and add it to the lot. Use measured weight for worn coins. Keep 35% war nickels separate, and confirm 1964 Kennedy halves before using the 90% preset.

What does $1 face value of 90% silver mean?

Ten dimes, four quarters or two half dollars make $1 face and contain 22.5 g fine silver at original standard weight: 0.7234 fine ozt. This calculator uses that standard unless you enter measured weight.

The dealer convention of 0.715 fine ozt per $1 face allows for circulation wear. It is a separate estimate, not the original specification of every coin. Morgan and Peace dollars, 40% halves and 35% war nickels each have their own silver-to-face ratio.
